Jarrow

Jarrow is a busy town on the banks of the River Tyne to the west of South Shields but. The town is linked to the North Shields by the Tyne Tunnels and the pedestrian tunnel which run under the River Tyne. Jarrow is also serviced by the Metro train line running throughout Tyne & Wear.

Founded as a Roman fort in the 1st century AD, Jarrow is one of the most historic towns in the North-East.

Bede's World, a museum illustrating the extraordinary world of the Venerable Bede is one of Jarrow’s most prominent attractions. Considered to be the 'candle' of the Dark Ages, Bede gave an invaluable insight into the life of the monastery in the later 7th and early 8th centuries. The complex, run by English Heritage, has exhibitions on Bede's life, the monastery at Jarrow and early Northumbrian history.

Our Jarrow office is located on Ellison Street, and as well as Jarrow, this office also covers the neighbouring Monkton Village, Hebburn, and beyond.
