Home Information Pack

‘Newcastle is ready’ is the message coming from estate agent, Pattinsons today as the town, one of the six locations identified to host the early roll out of Home Information Packs (HIPs) launches the packs to consumers.

Over 25 local businesses have committed their support to the early roll out of packs in Newcastle, which will provide consumers with an opportunity to sample the packs, ahead of their mandatory introduction next June.

John Cook of Pack provider Ownership said: “We are committed to the introduction of Home Information Packs. We strongly believe it will help to make the house buying and selling process more efficient and transparent for all involved - in particular, for the consumer.

Justin Anim of Estate Agent Pattinson, who will also be taking part in the roll out said: “The potential benefits of the packs are immense, and we are pleased to be offering our consumers an opportunity to sample these ahead of their mandatory introduction next year.”

The roll out, which begins in November, will continue up until June 2007 when the packs become mandatory. Consumers in the six locations will have an opportunity to trial a HIP, which will be offered in the first phase free of charge and will also offer the opportunity of including a Home Condition Report (HCR), compiled by a fully trained and qualified Home Inspector.

Mike Ockenden, Director General for the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP), who is launching the roll out said:

“We are delighted that so many local businesses in Newcastle have committed to take part in the early roll out of the packs. The current house buying and selling process is highly inefficient and packs are being introduced to address this.

“The aim of the roll out is to provide an opportunity to test new processes and systems and to measure consumer response - it is primarily the consumer that the packs are being introduced for and so it is important that we gauge their response and ensure that the packs work for them.

“The roll out will include a robust and independent testing of the packs across the market with results published at various milestones throughout the pilot.”
