Big hit for homes under the hammer
THE success of Cumbria’s first property auction has forced organisers to book a larger venue for their next event.
Cumbrian Properties are now expecting about 500 people to attend their next auction at the Shepherd’s Inn on the Rosehill estate in Carlisle.
It comes after hundreds squeezed into first-floor hall of The Auctioneer next door for the county’s first property auction last week.
Sixteen of the 19 properties that were going under the hammer were sold.
Adrian Hogarth, director of Cumbrian Properties, said: “It was a tremendous response last week. The place was bouncing and there was over 300 people there.
“It was something completely new for the area and other estate agents were there, surveyors and people looking for properties.
“I think it’s going to be a more express way of selling property. It gives you maximum coverage with advertising on the internet, in newspapers and in catalogues, and sellers may get 70 to 90 viewings in a short space of time.
“On the night we are asking for the best offers.”
About 30 properties are expected to be included in the next auction, due to take place on April 26 from 6.30pm.
Cumbrian Properties will be working with Newcastle-based auctioneers Pattinsons.
The city-based estate agents are also looking at holding auctions in the south of the county.
